Panaji, Aug 9: India's premier ocean research institute, Goa-based National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), has decided to publicise the tidal movement records which will give information on the weather condition in this coastal state.

"Many a times NIO receives queries on the tides and weather conditions at Goan coastlines from tourists and casual visitors. It is hoped that this feature would help them and all others including news agencies in providing information," says institute's official website which carries the tidal table.

The information, according to the institute, is vital for the tourists and locals to know the weather condition.
Goa is facing rough weather for last few days with incessant rain hitting the state. The sea has remained rough restraining the movement of vessels off-shore.

The tidal data is collected from vital location, verem jetty across Mandovi river while wind data is collected from Donapaula and  Mormugao port, which gives the realistic idea of sea movement. A special equipment, sea level gauge, is installed at Verem to measure the tidal movement.

"The prediction of tides is a long process. The behaviour of the tide is recorded by a tide gauge at each particular location. The results of analyses of these observations, known as tidal constants, are then used to predict the behaviour of the tide for any period for that specific location," says NIO website. The data will be updated every five minutes, the website adds.

The information regarding wind speed, gust  and direction,  temperature and relative humidity,  atmospheric pressure and rainfall is also provided by this institute through its website for the common people.
