Mangalore, Aug 6: Bajrang Dal activists have staged protest in the city for arresting Bajrang Dal state convener, Mahendra Kumar on Monday August 6.
The agitators gathered at PVS Circle at about 11 in the morning and shouted slogans in support of Mahendra Kumar. However, the police arrested the agitators and cleared the roads.
Bajrang Dal leaders Vinay L Shetty, Sharan and others were present at the protest.
Bajrang Dal state convener Mahendra Kumar and Chikmagalur convener Mahendra were arrested at Chikmagalur on Sunday August 5 for kidnapping a Hindu woman who married a Muslim man.
The arrested were remanded to judicial custody till August 17.
Soumya, resident of Jayapura near Balehonnur and Rafiq of Shringeri were married in the registrar's office recently.
While they were traveling in a bus from Balehonnur to Chikmagalur, Mahendra Kumar and Mahendra were allegedly pulled them out of bus forcibly at Hunsehalli. Later, Rafiq was assaulted on the road by them.
Rafiq complained to Chikmagalur rural police that his wife had been kidnapped by Bajrang Dal leaders and he was assaulted by them. It is based on this complaint that Mahendra Kumar and Mahendra are held by police.
