Iraq to join international Syria talks in Vienna


Baghdad, Oct 28 (IANS): Iraq will participate in the international talks on the Syrian crisis which are expected to be held on October 30 in Vienna, a foreign ministry official said on Wednesday.

"Iraq's Deputy Foreign Minister Nazar al-Khairalla will represent Iraq in the international talks over peace in Syrian," the official told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

On October 23, foreign ministers of Russia, the US, Saudi Arabia and Turkey held a session of talks on solving the Syrian crisis in Vienna, and agreed to hold another meeting this week with a broader participation of regional and key countries.

EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini will take part in the meeting, in addition to Egypt and Iran, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's closest regional ally.

The four-and-half-year conflict in Syria has killed more than 250,000 people and displaced 11 million.
