Bangalore, Jul 30: Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy has expressed happiness over Dr Haneef's return to Bangalore after being absolved of all the terror charges, slapped by the Australian authorities on him.

Kumaraswamy told that he will meet the India-born doctor at his house on Monday. He, in fact, plans to offer him a government job in a state-run hospital.

"I am very happy that Haneef, a person from Bangalore, who faced agony for over a month in Australia, has now returned home," he said.

"If he is willing to accept, I would offer him a job in one of the hospitals in Karnataka. Our state needs able doctors and Haneef is welcome to join," he told

Haneef was released from custody in Australia after the terrorism charge against him was dropped. A relaxed Mohammad Haneef flew back to India via Bangkok and was accompanied by his wife's cousin Imran Siddiqui and lawyer Peter Russo.

Whether Haneef would ever go back to Australia is big question. His visa remains canceled. Australian immigration minister, Kevin Andrews has said, “His visa has been cancelled and unless there is some overturning of that by the Federal Court, it's my indication that his visa will remain cancelled. Nothing has changed in terms of the circumstances in which I had to make a decision concerning doctor Haneef".

This remark by the Immigration Minister has evoked a sharp response from Haneef's lawyer. He says the decision to refuse Haneef a working visa will damage Australia's reputation.

Haneef’s lawyer Peter Russo who accompanied him on his India returns, said, “The minister's decision is beyond bizarre. It will mystify the great majority of Australian people. It will make overseas people very suspicious about living and working in Australia and this negative perception will take decades to erase,” said the immigration minister.

Mr CM you want to give employment for this high profile doctor?  because he was held in jail?  Try to employ our own Kannadigas who do not have jobs and sitting idle at home.  Dont give statements like a joker.

Chief Minister's honeyed offer is nothing but a political gimmick. His expression of happiness over the return of Dr. Haneef is just an artificial one and the job offer is just to appease a section of the community with an eventual eye on their vote bank.

But don’t think Chief Minister, you can take muslims for a ride anymore. Most of them are awakened and they are not going to be carried away with these cheap temptation. Your expression of joy is as some one quoted, Jeethe hue pehelwan ko sab sabhashi dete hai (everyone praises a wrestler who has won). Karnataka Government as a whole and Chief Minister specifically did nothing to help this innocent victim who is the son of Karnataka soil and was languishing in the prison for 4 weeks going through all sorts of trauma and mental anguish.

The appreciation should go to our government in Center, particularly, Dr. Manmohan Singh. And of course, the media, NDTV, CNN IBN and in Australia. Finally, Hanif being a professional, he should not have dearth of job in India or abroad.

Why Government job ? His family is already having multi-speciality hospital in Padmanabha Nagar Bangalore. Why cant he employ him there? This offer of govt job is Stupidity plus populism. Why doesnt he offer employment to thousands of unemployed? Why cant he give correct salary to Anganawadi Workers who are exploited by the government itself?

Another gimmick by this useless CM - This is just to please the Minority Community. Dr. Haneef with his excellent Academic background will either prefer to start private practice / get a lucrative job either in the HI Tech hospitals / go abroad. Let the CM ensure transperancy in filling up posts by ordinary applicants who have to pull strings to get jobs in the Government sector.

It is absoultely stupid that CM is offering goverment job to Haneef. It just proves how dirty politics is and it clearly shows the CMs intention towards muslims because it is the muslim vote bank, which he wants to help badly to keep him in power.
