Mangalore, Jul 28: The inauguration of the Students Council of the Sandesha Lalitkala Mahavidyalaya was held on Friday Juy 27 at Sandesha

H C Rangappa, assistant director of Kannada and Culture department, government of Karnataka who presided over the function  spoke highly about Sandesha about its efforts and achievements in the field of the classical arts of India and wished it greater successes.

Melwin Peris, well-known musician and singer was the guest of honour and he spoke about the need of student unions in the colleges to develop in them leadership qualities and and a sense of responsibility so that  they may prepare themselves to be the future leaders of India.

Fr Francis Lewis, director of Sandesha welcomed the gathering The office-bearers of the students union  under the leadership of George Mathew, the president of the union took the oath of  being true to their duties and responsibilities. Nelson D’Souza, Leena and Jisha are the vice-president , secretary and  the joint-secretary  of the union respectively .

Former lecturer M Yasmin was honoured on this occasion by the principal Vani Rajgopal. The college students presented a cultural programme of Carnatic Vocal , Western Music,  Bharatanatyam, a song  and a skit.

 Sandesha is the only fine arts college under the Mangalore University offering a three-year B A degree course in Indian classical  arts and Western Classical music (Keyboard).
