Tax payer’s alert: July 31, has been notified as the last date for filing of returns on income for the year 2007-08, for salaried and non-audit business cases, as per the press release from the IT dept.

Further, it states that the return receipt counters will be kept open on July, 28 from 10 am to 5 pm for the convenience of the general public. New income tax returns (ITR) forms have already been prescribed for the year. 

In this connection, the IT dept has planned free workshops for guiding taxpayers in filing their tax returns on income. These workshops will be held on July 26 at 11 am and 4 pm at CR building in Attavar and the income tax office in Udupi, added the press release.

Rank holders in CA: Prashanth Baliga of Mangalore secured the 18th rank in the All India level-CA final exam conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) held on May 2007. 

Brief background on Prashanth: Son of chartered accountant B Raghurama Baliga and Shobha R Baliga, Prashanth is currently doing his CA articleship training under his father. Earlier he had secured 8th rank in the CA (PE2) exams and 4th rank in B Com degree exams of the Mangalore University in 2003.     

Basketball Tourney: A three-district monsoon league basketball tournament for the Independence Club will be organized by the DK district basketball association on Saturdays and Sundays at the U Srinivas Mallya indoor court. 

Teams from Kodagu, DK and Udupi districts will participate. The tournament will be played on July 28 and 29, August 4 and 5, and August 11 and 12.  It will be for primary school (boys and girls), high school (boys and girls) and for men.

Ritual ‘Mudhradarana’: The said ritual ‘Taptha Mudhradarana’ will be performed by Shree Raghubushana swamiji of Baalagaaru Math on devotees at Sri Guru Raghavendra Swamy Brindavan trust in Nellikai house between 9 am and 1 pm today.

Tiny Tots’ curriculum opened: City based Aloha learning centre has introduced ‘Tiny Tots’ curriculum exclusively for children between the ages of four and eight for the first time in the district. 

The specially designed Abacus-based programme in arithmetic is well supported by colourfully illustrated books to make the classroom sessions interesting and cheerful. This programme is understood to enhance memory power, improve grasping ability, increase concentration and aid in development of creative thinking in children, according to the chief instructor Prerana Acharya. 

New President for MMA: M Shekar Pujari AGM of Aspinwall and Company Ltd was elected as president of Mangalore Management Association (MMA) at the 28th AGM of MMA held here recently in the SDM college.

The other elected office-bearers are T G Shenoy as vice president, U Rama Rao as secretary, Ranganath C Kini as joint secretary and J H G Anchen as treasurer.

Besant evening college: With the inclusion of computer application for new courses like BBM, PGDCA and B Com Besant evening college has shown the path, as a model for others stated Ajith Kumar Malady, president of the   Kodialgutthu Charitable Trust here, recently. He wished the students a bright future especially all those who had enrolled for the new courses. 

Kadri Hdfc manager Kishan stated that success is possible only through personal efforts and integrity.

Kudpi Jagadish Shenoy, president Women’s National Education Society (WNES) and evening college principal Prof Sulochana D Rao among others were also present. 

Inauguration: President of the district unit of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat(KSP) Pradeep Kumar inaugurated a Kannada Literature Association at Besants College here on Wednesday, 25 July. 

As per press release, it was a joint effort of the college and the district unit of the KSP.

Lecture: A lecture has been organized here for Friday, July 27 by the St Aloysius Alumni Association on “Reverse mortgage” to be given by P K Amaranth, Corporation Bank chief manager for credit policy and planning, as per press release.

Essay competition: The staff of the recreation club of Mangalore Research Centre of the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute will organize an essay competition on the subject ‘Living wealth of oceans: challenges of conservation and sustainable use’ for pre-university students. This competition is scheduled to be held on Saturday, 28 July.
