Brazil unemployment rate hits 8.6 percent


Rio De Janeiro, Sep 30 (IANS): Brazil's unemployment rate in May-July reached 8.6 percent, the eighth consecutive growth, statistics showed on Wednesday.

The figures, presented by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, increased by 0.6 percentage points from the end of April and by 2.7 percentage points from May-July 2014, Xinhua news agency reported.

Average wages in Brazil also fell to 1,881 reais ($462) per month, the lowest since November 2014.

The report was compiled according to new recommendations by the International Labour Organization and includes specific unemployment data for each of Brazil's regions and states.

It found that more than 8.6 million Brazilians are now out of work.
