Mumbai, Jul 16: Music composer and singer Kailash Kher is in trouble for selling a song he had sung for the film By Chance to a different company under a different title.

The NRI producer, Jay Varia, has filed a case against him in the Bombay High Court for using the song Loki Panjwele — its title in the movie, as Jhoomo Re in his new album of the same name with just minor changes. The case filed by the producer on June 27 will be heard in a couple of days.

Talking to MiD DAY from Kenya, Varia said, “Kailash had sung the song for our movie By Chance and we own the rights of the song.

We had warned him and Sony BMG which released this album. We were left with no option but to file the complaint.”

Kher, however, said, “I had licensed my song to the producer, as he wanted to use it for the publicity of the movie. The producer only had the rights for a limited period, so I released it later.”

By Chance stars Puneet Tejwani, Anjana Sukhani, Raju Shrivatsav, Nasser Abdullah and Kuljeet Randhawa, who had killed herself in February last year.
