Puttur, Jul 16: At the background of general complaints on illegal abattoirs operating in the neighborhood of Nettana under the jurisdiction of Kadaba police station near here,  the police raided and seem to have returned in empty hands after the accused fled the place.

The accused who were operating illegal abattoirs managed to escape with the beef when the police raided their make-shift slaughter house located near Nettana railway track.  

It was believed that cattle are illegally slaughtered in four houses located in Palthaje, Nerunji in the vicinity of Nettana. The beef meat being supplied to far away places in organized manner besides its being supplied to local restaurants.  

The general complaints are that the people who are involved in illegal slaughtering of cows are known to lift the cattle that are left for grazing.  Moreover they dump the left-over of carcasses in the nearby rivulets.

Those who are involved in the illegal trade are known to run rubber scrap business.  They are known to cause disturbance by engaging in cow slaughter and lifting cattle in the neighborhood.
