Bangalore, Jul, 16: A group of Naxals struck at Hosagatte village near Agumbe in Karnataka's Shimoga district, forcing two persons to part with cash of Rs 50,000, a top police official said.

"The 4-5 member group decamped with cash from the house and from a shop belonging to Umesh and Nagesh on Saturday night," Inspector General of Police (Western range) A M Prasad said.

A police team arrived at the scene and an enquiry has been launched, he said.

Last week, five naxals were killed in an encounter with police in the neighbouring Chikmagalur district.
