Udupi, Jul 15: Unidentified miscreants have broken into a temple at Barkur and have decamped with gold and cash on Friday July 13 evening.

The theft has taken place at the recently renovated Venugopal Temple, when the priest had gone home after performing daily pooja in the evening. They have stolen various ornaments including the idol of deity and many alms boxes, total value of which is placed at Rs 1 lac.

However, neighbours have expressed surprised over the case of theft in spite of the temple being surrounded by many houses.
