Mumbai, Jul 11: If there is one thing the Hindi film industry desperately needs, it’s a new generation of potential leading ladies.

No wonder, there is such anticipation about the debut of Anil Kapoor’s daughter Sonam in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya later this year as well as model Deepika Padukone’s arrival in Farah Khan’s Om Shanti Om round Diwali. But first up is Delhi girl and model Urvashi Sharma who debuts in Abbas-Mustan’s Naqaab this week.

Urvashi, the face of Garnier and Ponds, also seen in music videos with Mika and Atif Aslam, made waves last year with her unique eight-movie contract with Tips. She enjoys the enviable distinction of debuting with the ace pair of Abbas-Mustan in a thriller with co-stars Bobby Deol and Akshaye Khanna.

Urvashi says she respects movies more after her acting experience. “It was fantastic and so different to modeling where you just pose, smile, give your shot and are done. Movies are hard work. Now when I watch a movie I understand the hard work that’s gone into it,” she says.

The 21-year-old, 5’7.5” tall model has always been athletic and stays trim by swimming 80-100 lengths daily. She says she intends to return to her incomplete BSc degree at some point.

Let’s hope her debut gives Bollywood a much-needed new actress.
