Mangalore, Jul 11: Performing Yakshagana in English is not an easy task as the troupe that would perform it in English, faces many hurdles like language, said   M Prabhakar Joshi artiste and critic of Yakshagana here on Tuesday June 10.

Addressing the gathering at the valedictory ceremony of silver jubilee of the Yaksha Nandana Panambur P V Aithal English Yakshagana at the Town Hall here he said if Shakespeare’s work can be translated into Kannada then the criticism against English yakshagana is not reasonable.

Presenting yakshagana in any language is welcome like any other art form as every art should undergo changes but the basic style of yakshagana should not undergo changes as yakshagana, said Mohan Alva, chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation in his presidential address.

Alva added Yakshagana the heritage of our culture would spread through out the world through English.

Senior Yakshagana artiste Kolyur Ramachandra Rao and renowned Yakshagana bhagavata P Venkataramana Aithal were felicitated on the occasion. Edaneeru Mutt swamiji Shri Keshavananda Bharathi Swamiji delievered message.

Kateel Durga parameshwari Temple trustee Lakshinarayana Asranna, senior Yakshagana artiste M L Samaga, Yaksha Nandana patrons Dr Satyamurthy Aithal and advocate Santosh Aithal were present.
