Udupi, Jul 11: Women from backward classes should become financially independent said the chief executive officer (CEO) of the Zilla Panchayat P Hemalatha near here, on Tuesday, July 10.

Hemalatha was speaking after distributing the certificates to those members of the Savita Samaja who had completed their three months' beautician course. This programme was jointly organized by D Devaraj Urs backward classes development corporation in association with the Zilla Savita Samaja.

She said that the women who have completed the course through the Samaja should try to set up an establishment in a year with their experience. This will enable them to gain self confidence. 

Several schemes for the welfare of weaker sections has been launched by the government but the problem is that the youth are not even aware of it. Hence it is better that when ever government brings out some scheme, it should be highlighted and the youth should make use of the facility available to them, she said.

President of district Savita Sahakara Sangha Naveenchandra Bhandary presided over the function. Member of the state executive committee of Bharatiya Janata party Mahila Morcha Vasanthi Shetty, district supervisor of the corporation Jagannath Shetty, president of the district Mahila Congress committee Veronica Carnelio and president of the Taluk Savita Samaj katapaday Keshav Bhandary were present.
