Mangalore, Jul 11: Police have arrested two uninvited women attending a wedding function under the cover of burqa in Kunjattur near Manjeshwar in the neighbouring Kasaragod district.

Posing as guests at the wedding these two young women snatched a four-sovereign gold chain from the neck of another woman, who immediately screamed and alarmed others.

People around caught hold of them, and after restoring the chain to the owner, handed over the women to the police. The police said there is a rising number of such cases in which women, misusing the burqa and hiding their identity, attend weddings without invitation and indulge in thefts of this kind.

Since many similar incidents had taken place under Konaje police station limits near Mangalore, the Kerala police are understood to have handed the women over to Ullal police.

They have cautioned that women have to be extra careful while attending crowded events.
