Mangalore, Jul 11: Bidi employers have cheated the labourers by not paying the dearness allowance (DA) in time, the local unit of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has alleged.

A meeting was held in Bangalore on June 30 and the employers agreed to pay the DA Rs 4500 before June 30. But they have not paid the DA yet.

Hence, the employers have breached the contract, CITU has said.
In some cases,  only Rs 1 thousand is paid to the labourers, while signature is obtained for having received a payment of Rs 4500.

Hence, a protest will be staged in front of Ganesh Bidi depot on July 24, said South Canara Bidi Workers Federation in a press release.
