Margao, Jul 11: In a characteristic filmi style, a miscreant tried to snatch the 'mangalsutra' from a woman's neck here. But before he could flee, the people around caught hold of him in response to the woman's scream for help.

According to Information given by police, the incident happened early in the morning on Tuesday. A woman was passing on the road near by Hari Mandir. The alleged thief snatched her mangalsutra and was running away. When the woman screamed and alerted the people around. The vigilant people caught him. They bound him to a telephone pole and called the police, who came and arrested him.

The police have warned women not to wear valuables while walking in lonely places.

In the meanwhile, the police have arrested two suspects in the connection of theft of articles worth Rs 1.5 lac from an old house in Borda–Margao.

Two suspects, Veer Singh and Salim Shaikh, have been arrested.

Margao police are investigating both the cases.
