Tracy Morgan's surprise visit at Emmys greeted by laughter, tears

Los Angeles, Sep 21 (IANS): There was laughter, tears of joy, cheering as actor-comedian Tracy Morgan made a surprise appearance, following his fatal car crash last year, on the stage with his comic antics to close the 67th annual Primetime Emmy Awards here.

Morgan came up on the stage in a dark suit to present the final award of the ceremony, being held here on Sunday. He gave away Outstanding Drama Series award to “Game of Thrones”.

Morgan was critically injured in a car crash in June 2014, which left him in coma and killed his friend. The actor has been in recovery since then and has stayed away from the spotlight.

“I miss you guys so much,” he said after the audience gave him a standing ovation.

“Last year, Jimmy Kimmel stood on this stage and said ‘We’ll see you back here next year, Tracy Morgan.’ Well, Jimmy, thanks to my amazing doctors and the support of my family and my beautiful new wife, I’m here,” he added.

As the mood became sombre, Morgan got in form and started rolling out his trademark jokes.

He thanked everyone for their thoughts and prayers over the last 15 months, and then cracked a joke about waking up from an eight-day coma and being “just ecstatic to learn that” he “wasn’t the one who messed up.”

He also said how he was beginning to feel like himself again, which meant that "a lot of the women gonna get pregnant at the after party."

Morgan will next be seen on television when he hosts episode of “Saturday Night Live” on October 17.
