Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (SM/NR)

Udupi, Jul 9: The Regional Transport Authorities of both Udupi and Dakhina Kannada district are introducing the Geographical Positioning System (GPS) for the first time in the country.

The Canara bus owner’s association, district administrations, RTOs and i-factor, the technology provider, have come together to launch this path breaking system viz GPS. One of the best things about this system is the panic button alert. It will help in indicating the exact accident location.

Even the police will be able to reach the spot immediately, through a map, which will have direct access to the system.

Bangalore-based i-factor technologies pvt ltd, first developed this navigation satellite and GSM – based technology. According to its director Rajesh Kundar’s it was his love towards his native place (Udupi) which inspired him to launch this system in Udupi for the first time.

This system has already been introduced in Mangalore- Bhatkal express (Ballal Motors) bus and is working well, said Rajesh Kundar, speaking to media persons here on Saturday, July 7.

Udupi RTO M P Omkareshwari said that in the initial stages around mid August, a chip would be installed in100 express buses plying between Mangalore and Udupi.

For using this GPS chip, each bus operator would have to shell-out around Rs 22,000.  The control rooms will be located at RTO offices, from where the DCs and SPs will have a direct access to the system.
