ABC News - Australia

Jul 9: A Brisbane magistrate has granted Australian Federal Police (AFP) an additional 48 hours to detain terrorism suspect Mohammed Haneef.

The ABC has been told that Dr Haneef's legal counsel raised a number of issues on behalf of the 27-year-old and that the magistrate granted the AFP 48 hours to respond to those concerns.

The Gold Coast doctor cannot be questioned during this time.

The matter will return to a closed court at 10:00am AEST on Wednesday morning.

Dr Haneef has been in custody for the past week as AFP officers investigate alleged links to the recent UK bomb plots.

A previous extension granted last week was due to expire this evening, but this afternoon the AFP applied for another five days.
