Mangalore, Jul 9:  A meeting of bankers was convened here recently by Syndicate Bank the lead bank for Dakshina Kannada.

It was decided to work towards Reserve Bank of India’s directive of providing banking services for each and every individual in the district.

Speaking at the meeting K U Shanbhag, deputy GM, Syndicate Bank enjoined the representatives of various banks who attended the meeting, to work towards achieving RBI’s financial inclusion policy.

According to Shanbhag, banks could adopt villages, undertake economic surveys of families in those villages and motivate and guide them to open a bank account. Banks could offer tailor-made loan products to those families which required them. Moreover he said efforts were on to declare dakshina kannada as a financially inclusive district by end of July.

It was also decided at this meeting to utilize the services of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in the district, in order to carry out survey work. Shanbhag informed the representatives that the Navodaya gram vikas charitable trust would take up the survey work in mangalore taluk, Nagarika seva trust in Belthangady taluk and Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala rural development project in Guruvayanakere of Beltangady taluk, Sullia, Bantwal and Puttur taluks respectively.

A M Kunjappa, CEO of Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat, exhorted the villagers to join hands and cooperate with NGOs in the survey work and urged them to ensure that every family opened a bank account.
