Mangalore, Jul 7: In a significant move in the DK district police set up, District Anti-Rowdy Squad which was functioning since the past decade has been disbanded, on Thursday, July 5.

There is an interesting fact to know that Anti-Rowdy Squad was formed when the present IGP Ashith Mohan Prasad was the SP of the district.  But now as soon as he took charge as the IGP of Western Range, he has advised the new SP Satheesh Kumar to disband it.

Anti-Rowdy Squad was formed under the leadership of Jayanth Shetty, known a tough cop.  It was during this time that anti-social elements were brought to control.  Jayant Shetty and Ashokan, who came later, were a nightmare to goons since they knew the tricks to control them without going through encounters and hi-tech means.  However, the same force has gone through the ordeal of disbandment and re-instatement, led by many police personnel in the past while this time, the force seems to be disbanded once for all.

It has been advised to disband Highway Patrol Squad too.  Besides, anti-rowdy task force has not made any worthy achievement in the recent past.  Highway Patrol Squad seems to be recording at least two cases in a week.  Moreover, it has been alleged that the officers are misusing their authority.  The discussions are going on at police quarters to disband both the forces.

New force:

The police department is likely to form a special force instead of anti-rowdy task force. However SP, Satheesh Kumar seems to have said that, there are no such plans so far. It has been learnt that though the anti-rowdy squad has the jurisdiction of entire district; it has been restricted to function from one police station which seems to be the basis to disband the squad.

Meanwhile some police sources said that the Anti-rowdy Squad has not been officially disbanded but only the police personnel working in the squad have been asked to go back to their respective police stations since there has been little work of Anti-rowdy Squad these days.  Sources also said there are chances that there are chances that anti-rowdy squad will be continued but with new faces and working directly under the SP.
