Udupi, Jul 4: The disposal of waste had been a headache to the district administration and the municipality. Accordingly in a meeting, they decided to collect the wastes directly from the houses.

This keeps the town clean and also relieves residents from the complaints made against each other for throwing the waste into other’s surrounding, said deputy commissioner V Ponnuraj.

The plan was launched a few days ago by the district administration and the municipality he said. An NGO has been collecting domestic waste in Manipal, and the same would be implemented in the 19 deaneries including Malpe, he added.
 
He further said that now the separation of damped waste from dry waste is not up to the hilt. This would be improved in a short period of time, and these wastes would be carried in separate carts.

The general public is requested to separate the damped waste and dry waste so that it would be dumped into separate cart, he added.

At present the waste is disposed at Beedinagudde the dumping yard near here. In the future the landfill would be shifted to big waste management unit. All the necessary steps are taken to ensure effective waste treatment, he said.

He further said that the money collected from hotels, shops, and houses will be used for the management of the newly-adopted system. The charge would be Rs 30 per house, Rs 15 per flat and for hotels it would be Rs 150 to Rs 500, he added.
