Udupi, Jul 3: The district administration has been contemplating in terms of installing speed governors in the buses, to curb the menace of speeding. 

It would certainly put an end to the reckless driving which hitherto used to put the lives of passengers and pedestrians in peril. 

A majority of bus owners have expressed their consent to install the speed governors, while the final meeting in this regard will be held very soon.

The district administration intends to take action on installing the speed governors, as buses were involved in mishaps at a higher ratio compared with the statistics of accidents that occurred during last month.

The authorities would get a photograph of drivers when in motion through Global Positioning System (GPS) installed in the buses. The system similar to mobile chip can be installed in the buses with minimum cost.  Each unit of GPS costs Rs10 thousand while the recharge card costs Rs130 per month. The system would track the movement of bus, speed, over taking and its location.

As the issue of installing speed governors concerned to state administration while the local administration has been working on installing similar kind of apparatus, in order to control the speeding buses.

It has  been reliably learnt that an advertising firm has come forward to install the system at their own cost without causing any overheads to the bus owners.
