Mangalore, Jul 1: A newly -married bride was found dead at Kulai. Her husband has been arrested for dowry harassment here on Saturday, June 30.

The deceased has been identified as Komal nee Nandini (23), a resident of Kasturibai Nagar on Mysore Road near Bangalore.

She was given in marriage to one R Ranganath (31) on May 3, said to be an employee of the Coast Guard, Panambur. According to police reports Komal had come to Kulai only 15 days ago.

As per the police investigations, dowry harassment is said to have led the woman to hang herself. Ranganath had reportedly demanded Rs 1 lac as dowry. Moreover he had vices like heavy drinking and smoking,  according the statement of the members of the family of the deceased. 

Panambur DySP B Pitambar Heraje said that the accused was an alcoholic, as a result of which he could not support his family from the regular earnings. He started constantly demanding money from her, which is said to led her to end her life, according to preliminary investigation.
