Mangalore, Jul 1: After a day's break, heavy rains lashed the city on Saturday evening and damaged 4 houses here on Saturday, June 30.

It appeared to be a dry day in the morning in spite of the overcast, but by evening the skies opened up accompanied by powerful and speedy winds. Four houses have been damaged in Mukka near Suratkal.

Besides, ten arecanut trees and twenty coconut trees have perished in the rain. The houses that have been damaged due to the rain have been identified as those of Chandu, Enku, Surendra and Narayana and the loss has been estimated at Rs 5 lac.
