Mangalore, Jun 30: An action plan for development works of Rs 11.97 crore for the academic year 2007-08 was submitted by the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyana (SSA) at the SSA district implementation committee meet held at the zilla panchayat here on Friday June 29.
According to the action plan, Rs 40.47 lac has been set aside to provide extra tuitions to academically backward students in the district, said Geetha Devdas, assistant project co-coordinator of of SSA.
A sum of Rs 96.78 lac has been sanctioned to conduct a 20-day training programme for 6,913 teachers of government and aided schools.
The action plan also included identification of special children through medical check up. A sum of Rs 46.27 lac has been sanctioned for thier eductaion, she said.
The plan also prioritises SC and ST students who will be given free text books from standard I to VIII. A sum of Rs 29.17 lac has been reserved to distribute the books.
Projects like construction of four new school buildings at the cost of Rs 26 lac and renovation works worth Rs 17 lac at 37 schools are also on the cards.
Chief executive officer of zilla panchayat A M Kunjappa, president Sushma Janardhan and vice-president Rajashree Hegde were present.
