Udupi, Jun 29: A housewife was killed in a road accident at Poopadikallu near Guddeyangadi of Bommarabettu near here on Thursday June 28 evening.

The deceased has identified as Indira Acharya (42), wife of Vithal Acharya of Nellikatte near Karkala.  She had gone to attend her sister Saroja's wedding at Hiriadka.  The marriage party was on the way to bridegroom's house on a car when a government bus collided with it.

As a result Indira who was in bridegroom's car sustained serious injuries and died on the way to hospital.  Though the bridegroom Sudhakar too was in the same car, he escaped unhurt.  However, car driver Ganesh and Sudhakar's brother Ratnakar Acharya have sustained minor injuries and are admitted to hospital.

The said government bus was on its way to Beelagi in Bagalkot from Dharmasthala via Udupi when the accident occurred.  The police have arrested bus driver Basappa Somappa Madar.
