Mangalore, Jun 27: Mangalore University’s move to impose two new fees for degree students for the academic year 2007-08 has drawn flak from the Private College Managements’ Association.

At a meeting of the Association held in Karkala recently, Association president H Shantaram, secretary Wilson D’Souza and executive member Y Bhaskar Shetty informed that the extra fees imposed are Rs 50 as University development fund fee and another Rs 50 as fee for extra-curricular activities.

Expressing their concern over the burden of extra fees on the students from financially backwards families, they alleged that the University had taken the decision without consulting the college managements.

They further said that though the University had allowed 10 per cent increase in the number of students to be admitted to various courses, it also charged Rs 2000 from the colleges for every additional student.

The Association members urged the University to withdraw both the extra fees and the charge for every additional student admitted.
