Sullia, Jun 27: Leelavati, a 11-year-old class 6 girl died of rabies at Guttigar near Subrahmanya here on Sunday June 27.

Leelavati was student of Kutkunja School.  On Saturday June 23 she is said to have complained about pain in her joints and waist.  However, it was only on Sunday that she was taken to government hospital at Panja for treatment.  Though she was treated there, here health deteriorated by afternoon.

Following this, she was taken to Puttur private hospital.  However, she breathed here last within a few moments of her admitting into the hospital.  Later the concerned doctor confirmed that she had died of rabies.  Her family members however, were of the opinion that she had not been bitten by rabies-affected dog.  But it said that rabies virus might have entered her system either while playing with rabies-affected dogs.
