Bangalore, Jun 26: Speculation is rife in political circles that former Indian captain Mohammed Azharuddin may join the JD(S).

In fact, former Indian cricketer Dodda Ganesh, who is to formally join the JD(S) on Wednesday, was accompanied by Azhar to meet party supremo H D Deve Gowda at his residence here on Monday.

“He is here to support Ganesh,” a JD(S) leader said while refusing to divulge details on what transpired between the two. Ganesh too sounded cautious and said that he had no idea about Azhar’s political interests.

Sources said Azhar met Gowda over his business interests in the City. Besides having a house, Azhar owns properties in the City and elsewhere in the State. Ganesh said he is joining the JD(S) to support Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy.

“I am impressed by Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy. He is a youngster and needs support from all quarters,” Ganesh said.

A medium pacer who represented the State in Ranji and played a few one-day internationals and a Test before calling it quits a few days back, Ganesh will join the JD(S) at the party office in the presence of Gowda on Wednesday.
