Udupi, Jun 25: A child labourer Ambala (14) from Rajasthan was beaten up by Prakash, owner of a snack stall in the city and supplier of child labourers here recently.

Prakash, who also hails from Rajasthan, runs a pani-puri stall in the city. He gets child labourers from his state and supplies them to hotel owners in the city. Ambala, who was also brought to the city by Prakash, worked for few months and then came to know that only half his salary was sent to his parents while the rest was taken by Prakash as commission.

Thereafter the boy left the hotel and joined a canteen near the railway station about two months ago. When this came to the notice of Prakash he began ill treating him.

A few locals who came to know of the incident notified the police who arrested Prakash.
