Bantwal, Jun 22: A group of youth were attacked by another group at Farangipet on NH 48 near here on Friday June 22 morning.

The group has assaulted Vishwanath, Tejas, Naveen, all residents of nearby Navoor who were traveling in a bus, bound for Mangalore from Dharmastal by forcing them to alight.  Dawood, Imran, Mustafa yane Hamza, Salim, Noushad and others, all residents of Ammembal in Farangipet, were involved in the assault.

It is said that Vishwanath and his friends had warned a few youth from another community against eve-teasing.  Peeved by this the latter said to have pulled Vishwanath and his friends out from the bus and assaulted.

But certain sources put the story in another view saying that the victims of assault were friendly with a young women of the another community who were travelling in the same bus.  As it is the dictum in the district in the last one hand half year (that young men and women of these two communities cannot relate or talk to each other.  There have been innumerable examples of youth from minority community being attacked for relating, talking with the young women from another community), the members of the young women's community objected and assaulted Vishwanath and his friends.

However, so far nothing is sure.  Only a detailed investigation would throw light on the crime.  The Bantwal rural police have registered the case.
