Mangalore, Jun 22: A free epilepsy screening and consultation camp will be conducted by KMC Hospital at Ambedkar Circle here on Saturday June 23.

According to the press release epilepsy is triggered by excessive use of alcohol, emotional turmoil, excessive starvation, low blood sugar and lack of sleep. Epilepsy is commonly called fits, and it occurs when the electric charges of brain cells become excessive, stated the release.

Dr Z K Mizri said in the release that all kinds of fits are treatable by medication and the rate of success has been as much as 90 per cent.

Dr Suresh B V Hegde said that some people believe that one should not touch a patient having fits, and some even think that marriage will cure the disease. But all these are myths and they are far from reality.

The aim of conducting the camp is to remove the myths and to create awareness about the treatment of the disease. Chance of a complete cure is possible when it’s detected and treated at an early stage stated COO of KMC hospital Dr Sunil Deshpande in the release.
