Mangalore, Jun 22: Replacing a defective mobile phone may be quite common, but it sure is rare when the consumer placed a demand for replacing his newly-bought car.

Pravenchandra Shetty of Bendorewell here had purchased Wagon R Vxi Euro II model from Mandovi Motors in March 2003. The car had a warranty of 24 months or 40,000 km.

Shetty complained to the Dakshina Kannada district consumer disputes redressal forum that the car has been vibrating abnormally since the day of the purchase. Though he complained to the dealer within a month of the purchase, it not only went futile but the dealer even changed several major parts of the car.

He also got it tested by NIT-K professors of mechanical engineering, who, after a thorough check, reported that the car indeed had defects.

Now the redressal forum has directed Maruti Udyog Ltd, Gurgaon, and its dealer Mandovi Motors Pvt Ltd to replace the defective car.

Forum president Asha Shetty and member K Ramachandra were in favor of Shetty and told that the vehicle had manufacturing faults and should be replaced.
