Mangalore, Jun 21: An electric vehicle has been developed by four mechanical engineering students of NMAMIT, Nitte which can carry a single individual (SELWAY).

According to a press release, the three-wheeled vehicle has no chain drives, pulley drives, gear drive or bulky transmission unit. The motor is incorporated inside the front wheel which reduces the loss of transmission.

Avilash V L, Chirag M Shetty, Floyd S Lobo and Vaspaan R Chichgaar have developed this portable, pollution-free, noiseless, eco-friendly and battery-operated vehicle under the guidance of Dr Srinivasa Rao B R and other faculty.

The vehicle is an alternative to any vehicle that depends on non-renewable source of energy. Moreover, it has a low maintenance cost. The vehicle has been designed specially for places like hospitals, airports, shopping malls, industries, college campus etc, the press release stated.

The vehicle when completely charged for six hours runs for 30 km at a maximum speed of 30 km/hr. 

The project has been widely accepted and appreciated by many, stated the release.
