HC stays TV telecast of 'Grand Masti'

New Delhi, Aug 21 (IANS): The Delhi High Court on Friday stayed the television premiere of Hindi film "Grand Masti" holding that movie was not certified for unrestricted public exhibition.

A division bench of Chief Justice G. Rohini and Justice Jayant Nath said that the film cannot be televised under the Cable Network Regulation Act and also sought the central government's and censor board's response on a plea seeking quashing of the U/A certification given to the movie.

It posted the matter for September 16.

Starring Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi and Aftab Shivdasani, "Grand Masti" is an adult-comedy directed by Indra Kumar and was to be shown on television on Saturday.

The court was hearing a plea filed by Edara Gopi Chand, through advocate Gaurav Bansal, seeking stay on the telecast of the movie on television contending that it was replete with double meaning dialogues and highly objectionable content.

Its TV telecast will adversely affect the rights and interest of hundreds of thousands of minors in the country, especially children and adolescents, it added.
