Mangalore, Jun 10: A major accident took place on NH 17, near petrol pump at Katpady when a marriage party travelling in a maxi cab from Bajal to Kundapura, overturned and landed in the paddy field here on Sunday June 10 morning.

The marriage party with bride, Zita D"Souza from Bajal left in separate cars to reach St Antony"s church, Padukone  where the wedding was expected to take place with the bridegroom, Leslie Olivera. from Kundapura.  However, the wedding took place, despite of the mishap.

The accident occurred when the driver lost control in negotiating the oncoming traffic.

All the passenger escaped with minor injuries.  They have been identified as Chairmaine D'Souza (56), Precilla D'Souza(40), Jaswin (39),Sonia (23), Francis D'Souza (59), Lily Pinto (55), Sanwil (8), Reena Pinto (57), Janet Pinto (30), Theresa D'Souza (65), Reena(20), Vincent Fernandes (56), Ronald Fernandes (45), Baby Avisha (8), Russin (28) and driver, were injured and they were later treated in Hi Tech Hospital, Udupi.

Eyewitnesses said looking at the nature of the mishap, it was unbelievable that the passengers escaped with minor injuries. 

A case has been registered at Kaup police station.
