Mangalore, Jun 10: MCC mayor Vijaya Arun’s order for demolition of unauthorizedly constructed houses at Pachanadi waste dumping yard, was taken to task by the opposition party leader Shankar Bhat here on Saturday, June 10.

Addressing the presspersons Bhat said that it was “drama” on the part of Mayor Vijaya Arun that she first passed the orders for demolition  of houses and  later played the role of a saviour, with an eye on the forthcoming corporation elections. He condemned her  double standards and misleading attitude towards the innocent residents of Pachanadi.

Bhat further stated that Panchanadi ward corporator Hilda Alva too was confusing the residents by accusing MLA and district in-charge minister as the conspirator in the said plot. According to him none other than Suratkal MLA Krishna Palemar and District in-charge minister who actually consoled the residents who lost their huts.

Out of  nearly 104 acres of land that was reserved for the dumping yard in 1998, only 48 acres were left.  the remaining land were encroached by many people. It is believed that only 12 houses were constructed with the help of  the corporator.
