Udupi, Jun 6: Locals at Santur of Mudarangadi village showed a great deal of resistance when a survey team reached to survey the land for fly ash dumping for Nagarjuna thermal power plant on Tuesday, June 5.

Sources said that, even though there was a resistance by the locals, two other survey teams were successful in surveying the spot by reaching there through other path. The protest was staged under the leadership of MP Manorama Madhwaraj.

The protestors said that, KIADB, which has taken the responsibility of acquiring land, has not received permission from the local village panchayat. Hence, entire village panchayat would stage protest against the survey work.

A lake, which comes under the proposed fly ash dumping yard area, was renovated only a few months ago by spending about Rs 25 lac. Sources added that, the village panchayat has planned to supply drinking water to the entire village from this lake. But, now the KIADB is acquiring this entire lake which may lead to severe water problem in the village, complained locals.
