Udupi, Jun 6: After a successful voice restoration surgery a patient from Banglades regains his voice at Kasturba Hospital, Manipal recently.

According to a press release, patient Bimalendu Debnath (43) had lost his speech faculty because of an opening that was made on his lower neck. The opening had been made to enable him to breathe easily after he had a heart attack while he worked in Bahrain.

Bimalendu said that doctors in Bahrainhad  tried other modalities of treatment without success to have his voice restored and put the air passage in oder.

Kasturba Hospital's ENT surgeon and HoD of ENT Dr P Hazarika diagnosed him with Subglottic Stenosis (Upper part of the wind pipe just below the voice box) and operated on him.

The operation was performed by using a laser knife to release the block, the air way was reconstructed by using PVC stent, thus enabling the patient to breathe through the nose and to speak.
