Mangalore, Jun 4: Kanara Catholic Education Cooperative Society organized a free-aid scholarship distribution programme to the economically-backward students of Kannada medium of Catholic community on Sunday June 3 at 10:00 am at the Catholic Centre, Hampankatta near here.

Sr M Jyothi, Mother General of Bethany congregation was the chief guest who congratulated the society for its commendable generosity in helping financially-backward students of the community. She delivered a touching message to the students to make use of the help given by the society by studying hard and by becoming the leaders not only of the community but of the state and country. She also emphasized that the students are the lamp and the society is oil “So the society should keep on pouring oil in order to keep the lamp burning all along,” she added.

The programme began with a prayer song by the students of St Joseph primary school, Calvary Hill, Nanthoor. President of the society Rudolph D’Silva welcomed the gathering and also introduced the chief guest.  He also mentioned that Ronald Colaco, Lancy Mascarenhas, Anil D’Souza and Celine Saldanha have been kind enough to extend their helping hand for this aid.

Maria Rodrigues read-out the names of the 87 beneficiaries of different schools of the diocese whom the chief guest distributed the free aid. Vice-president Adeline Machado proposed the vote of thanks. Irene Fernandes compered the whole programme. Vice-president Adeline Machado, honorary secretary Fredrick Rodrigues, Directors, Judith Mascarenhas, were present on the dais and more than 200 people including the parents of the students were present for the function.
