Panaji, Jun 4: Finally, the elections are over and the counting of votes on will usher in a new government for Goa..

It is to be seen whether this new government, which is much awaited, would continue to sustain the legacy of instability that Goa has experienced for many years. or will be a stable government for the people who are fed up of party-hopping politicians.

Goa has seen so many chief ministers during the past decade, one after another, as the toppling games had become the order of the day. The legislators switched their loyalties just as they would change their clothes. Every time, a new excuse and on most of the occasions they claimed to have changed the parties stating  in the interests of the people's 'development'.

The whole of Goa knows as to who in fact 'developed' after changing parties. Goa remained the same but the politicians developed financially. No wonder then for the people to see the politicians and their wives were go around distributing money to the people in an attempt to buy votes. The election commission has caught a few such instances.

Finally, people have voted. It is to be seen whether the people have voted in favour of politicians distributing money or if they have exercised their right to vote in favour of right candidates. If people vote back corrupt politicians, it is for sure that Goa deserves an unstable government.

After a gap of five years, it was people's turn to choose the best persons to govern the state. The past five years saw the worst of things happening in Goa. It was a shame to see how politicians took people for granted. Our past reports in these columns can give the reader an idea of how the politicians went on changing their statements.

The voting is over and people are sitting at home in the rainy days. On Monday, people will go back to work. But the crucial day will be Tuesday when entire Goa will wait to see who won and who lost. Every party must be thinking that it will win but finally it is the silent electorate which has already made its choice.

Let's wait and watch.
