Udupi, May 25: Drive to evict illegal settlements, petty shops along the roads within the city has largely been appreciated by the residents.  Since it has benefited most of the people and is aimed at providing better facilities too all, similar drive now would be initiated in educational hub Manipal.

Town council has now issued notices to almost 35 petty shop owners of Manipal to evict their shops at the earliest.  The council officials would inspect the spot on Friday May 25 in this regard and would take further action.

As reported earlier a total of 26 shops have been evicted in the city in the past few days.  Two shops on Anjuman Road and a few illegal settlements near the KSRTC bus stand here were evicted on Friday.

The shopkeepers who have faced eviction have something to cheer about too.  They would be offered a space in the town council complex.  There are 18 shops in the complex which will be auctioned on May 29.  Others would be provided with space by-roads which are adjacent to the main road.
