Mangalore, May 23: Locals and members of Mogaveerapatna Swimmers' association rescued almost 25 persons of a picnic party from drowning at Ullal here on Wednesday May 23.

Nearly 25 persons had come to visit Ullal Dargah on Wednesday morning from Andhra Pradesh.  After visiting Dargah some of them went to the beach for a stroll.  It was when all of them were posing together for a photo that a marauding wave struck hard. 

As a result almost everyone one of them was pulled deep in the sea.  About 5-6 of them were in danger of drowning even as they were pulled deep into the waters.  But the locals and members of Mogaveerapatna swimmers' association immediately got into action and rescued them.

Kwaja Mastan, Salma, Mohammad Rafiq, Rayanabi and two more were rescued by the locals.  Out of them Salma and Kwaja Mastan Bi are reported to have taken ill and admitted to a hospital at Thokkottu.
