Mangalore, May 22: “Congress is a party of common people. Only this party can uplift the poor and marginalized people”, said Mallikarjun Kharge, president, Karnataka Pradesh Committee.

He was speaking at the party workers’ meeting held at Tokkottu near here on Monday May 21.

Congress was born for the independence of the nation. It has been striving to assure a dignified life for all the people in the country. But the JD(S) and BJP are only there for elections and authority, he opined. Speaking on the vague statements of JD(S) leader H D Devegowda, he said, “When his son Kumaraswamy joined with BJP to form the government, Devegowda opposed his son. But one month later, he started praising the achievements of Kumaraswamy”.

Veerappa Moily, former chief minister and president, Central Administrative Reforms Commission and also, former ministers Ramanath Rai and Sagir Ahmed, Congress leaders Sadananda Punja, Ramachandrappa, Mohammed Badruddin and others were present on the dais.
