Depp's wife summoned for smuggling dogs into Australia

Los Angeles, July 16 (IANS): Actor Johnny Depp and his wife Amber Heard made headlines in May for allegedly smuggling their pet dogs into Australia. Heard has now been summoned to appear in court over the allegations.

The 29-year-old actress was charged with two counts of illegal importation contrary to the quarantine act and one count of producing a false document. She could face fines as high as $100,000 or as long as 10 years in prison if found guilty, reports aceshowbiz.com.

Heard had been accompanying Depp who is filming his upcoming movie "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" in Australia.

They allegedly snuck their pet dogs, Pistol and Boo, in their private jet when they flew there in May, and it has been termed illegal.
