New York, July 15 (IANS): Rapper DMX has been sentenced to six months in jail here for unpaid child support.

Following this, musician Shaggy took to micro-blogging website Twitter to update DMX's fans that he won't be at Shaggfest 2015 in Virginia Beach on July 25.

Shaggy wrote: "It comes with sadness and regret. But Dmx will not be attending this year #shaggfest. -- he got locked up today for 6 months.

"He begged the judge to let him finish his last 3 shows. 2 this weekend and one next week. Which was #shaggfest. But the judge said no.

"Now I will find something to replace that slot and it will be great. We took a huge risk with Dmx and I'm not upset about the effort. 7am tomorrow we will tell you more details on this arrest and also what our plan is to fill that spot"

DMX was arrested on June 26 here, when he was about to perform at Radio City Music Hall.

At that time, the 44-year-old rapper was taken into custody "for several issues outstanding", including $400,000 in unpaid child support.

A warrant was also reportedly issued by the city of White Plains for bail jumping, being an aggravated unlicensed motor vehicle operator, and a robbery complaint out of Newark, New Jersey.
