Mangalore, May 18: In an early morning tragedy a housewife who had gone to a nearby shop was knocked down to death by a Kerala-registered Tata Sumo vehicle at Bajal cross road at Padil here on Friday May 18 morning.

The deceased has been identified as Janaki (50), a resident of Padil.  She had gone to fetch milk from a nearby shop on Friday morning.  As she was walking by the roadside a Tata Sumo vehicle (KL 14 E 1774) coming from Bangalore knocked her down. 

The vehicle was speeding on such a pace that Janaki sustained critical internal injuries and breathed her last on the spot.  It was an utter shock for quite a few locals who were in the vicinity in the early morning hours.

The Kankanady police have registered case in this regard and have seized the vehicle.
