Bangalore, May 17: One Rajeev, hailing from Shravanabelagola in Channarayapatna Taluk, Hassan District, who was vending dosas on Juhu Beach here, has been arrested, reportedly on charges of killing a dog on Tuesday. Police have filed FIR against Rajeev under Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. It is learnt, he has stated his name as Rajeev Devaraj Gowda while in Mumbai.

Police said that Rajeev Gowda stabbed a dog to death on Juhu Beach and that the owner of the dog had lodged a complaint. The knife allegedly used by Rajeev for killing the dog has been sent to Forensic Science Lab and after examining the fingerprints, action will be taken, Police said.

It all happened when a pet dog came to the spot where middle-aged Rajeev Gowda was chopping onions for dosas on Tuesday evening. Rajeev killed the dog with the same knife which he was using for chopping onions. However, the reaction of Rajeev himself is not available.

The pet dog belonged to Arleen Creado and Ivan Creado, who live close to Juhu Beach. The dog which responds to the name 'Snowy' had been reared by them for nine months. Rajeev stabbed the dog twice and killed it, they complained.

"I was getting prepared to go for a walk at about 7 O' Clock in the evening along with 'Snowy'. In the meanwhile I noticed the pet running towards me struggling with pain and yelling loudly. On close observation, it was found that the animal had been stabbed. Soon enough it collapsed and breathed its last. When I went out of the compound, I saw Rajeev holding the blood-stained knife", Arleen Creado narrated.

"Rajeev was trying to hide the knife. I snatched it from him. Rajeev justified his act saying that he had not done the stabbing intentionally. Rajeev told me that the dog was troubling him while he was chopping onions. He threw the knife at it to scare it away. That hurt him badly", Arleen quoted Rajeev as saying.
